UK GEAR MANUFACTURING

Precision Gear Manufacturing UK

Ondrives manufactures precision gears and engineered drive components in the UK, supporting customer drawings, new engineering requirements, prototype work and repeat production. Manufacturing, finishing and inspection are considered together so the tooth geometry and the surrounding component remain part of one controlled process.

Gear manufacturing capability

Ondrives combines CNC machining, gear cutting, gear grinding, specialist bevel gear systems and analytical inspection. This allows the manufacturing route to be selected around geometry, material condition, accuracy, quantity and the functional requirements of the component.

Cylindrical gears

Spur, helical and related cylindrical gear forms for standard and bespoke applications.

Bevel gearing

Spiral bevel, hypoid and high-ratio hypoid work using specialist Gleason systems.

Geared components

Pinions, geared shafts and compound components where the teeth are one feature of a larger precision-machined part.

From drawing to inspected component

A typical project starts with a drawing, model, existing component or engineering requirement. Planning then considers blank machining, datum strategy, tooth generation, heat-treatment allowance where applicable, finishing and inspection.

Engineering review

Check geometry, tolerances, materials, datums and the intended manufacturing route.

Manufacture

Coordinate CNC machining and gear manufacture so bearing features, bores and gear teeth remain related.

Inspection

Use gear inspection, CMM and optical measurement as appropriate to the drawing.

Gear quality and repeatability

Ondrives' published manufacturing capability includes work to recognised ISO and DIN gear-quality systems. The required standard and grade should be stated on the drawing, together with any profile, lead, pitch, runout or reporting requirements.

Starting a manufacturing enquiry

For the quickest technical review, send the complete drawing or 3D model together with quantities, material, heat treatment, gear quality and any inspection or certification requirements. If the design is still developing, include the mating gear and operating information as well.

Need help with a specific gear? Send Ondrives the drawing, model or available gear data. For new designs, include the operating duty and mating-component information so the manufacturing route can be reviewed in context.

Manufacturing detail that improves quoting and process planning

A useful manufacturing specification controls the complete component, not only the tooth form. The manufacturing route can change with material condition, heat treatment, datum strategy, batch size and the inspection evidence required.

Geometry and datums

State module or DP, tooth count, pressure angle, helix angle and hand where applicable, face width, bore/shaft details and the datum scheme that controls tooth position and runout.

Material and heat treatment

Specify material grade and condition, heat treatment, hardness and case depth where required. Allow for distortion and finishing stock when the tooth form or bearing seats are finished after heat treatment.

Inspection and records

Define the gear quality standard/grade, dimensional tolerances, surface finish, profile/lead/pitch/runout requirements and whether FAIR, material certification, traceability or detailed measurement reports are required.

For an efficient manufacturing review: send the latest drawing revision and preferably a STEP/3D model, quantity or annual demand, application duty, material/heat treatment and the required inspection/reporting level. Published machine capacities are indicative; final feasibility depends on geometry, tooling, workholding, material and accuracy.
